Anders von Greffelstejn is a Danish visual artist, living and working in Copenhagen. His work is characterized by its almost photo realistic depiction of animals and natural phenomena in watercolor. Anders von Greffelstejn takes his starting point in photographic material, and many of his motifs are borrowed Norse mythology and culture, such as the raven and “Sort Sol”, a unique type of murmuration, only seen in Southern Jutland. However, in his work, these representations appear outside of both time and place as well as outside of religious, spiritual or cultural context, thereby becoming symbols. Anders von Greffelstejn has previously worked professionally as a photographer, but now devotes his time to painting.
